The new president of the Lighting Industry Association says his twin priorities will be those of the sector’s customers: knowledge and quality.
Dave Ribbons, who combines the presidentship with his role as European sales chief at Lutron, said he wanted to guide the organisation during his year ‘to deliver exactly what the members have been asking for and what our customers demand, knowledge and quality.’
There will be a renewed emphasis on standards and testing, and education of both the industry and specifiers and end users.
As a graduate of the LIA’s certificate course in lighting, Ribbons says he understands the quality and importance of the support and services the LIA offers its membership and wider industry.
‘I feel proud and privileged to be taking on the role of president at such an exciting time for the association. With the now completed Academy taking in record numbers of students and the Lab fully functional, I take over the role with a solid foundation and infrastructure.’
At the LIA’s annual lunch in May, Peter Scott from Fern-Howard handed over his tenure as Ribbons. Ribbons acknowledged Scott’s contribution of the overseeing of the completion of the Lighting Industry Academy.
Ribbons is seen as an accomplished and focused individual, with a passion for the industry that spans over 25 years. During which time he has experienced and influenced all areas of the industry from wholesale to manufacture.
Annually, a selection of Council members automatically retire thus providing an opportunity for other LIA Members to get involved. This year a record thirteen candidates were nominated for the four available seats. Council members re-elected included Mike Barrett of GE representing luminaires, Alasdair McRury of Holophane representing luminaires and Simon Lilley of S Lilley and Son representing components. Joining the Council this year, representing luminaires, is newly elected James McKenzie of PhotonStar LED.
